Dakota Sanitation Recycling Services
Single-sort recycling is an easy and convenient system that allows all recyclable items such as fibers, plastics, and metals to be deposited in one container and combined in the collection truck. Items are later separated through various processing systems at a materials recovery facility.
Dakota Sanitation, Inc. takes great pride in providing our curbside recycling program to the city of Mandan in January of 2016! We are looking forward to being a part of the local recycling industry, with a focus on creating jobs, protecting the environment, conserving resources and encouraging all to recycle more. Dakota Sanitation aims to provide waste reduction through single-sort recycling to sustain long-term landfill disposal costs.
"Single-sort recycling" means you can put all your recyclables in one container, no sorting needed! The 96-gallon containers will be provided to all single residences and multi-family residences that already have individual trash receptacles.
Recycling will be picked up every other week on the same day as your regular garbage service
. For pick-up, please place your recycling container alongside your trash container with the front opening of the lid facing the street and the wheels of the container toward your home. Be sure to place your recycling container five feet away from your other garbage
container, vehicles, trailers etc.
Why Recycling Matters
When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are made by extracting fresh, raw material from the Earth, through mining and forestry. Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. Recycling saves energy.
Using recycled materials in the manufacturing process uses considerably less energy than that required for producing new products from raw materials – even when comparing all associated costs, like transport. Plus there are extra energy savings because more energy is required to extract, refine, transport and process raw materials ready for industry compared with providing industry-ready materials. Recycling helps protect the environment.
Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and processing raw materials all of which create substantial air and water pollution. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change. Recycling reduces landfill.
When we recycle, recyclable materials are reprocessed into new products, as a result, the amount of waste sent to landfill sites reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
